A Paranormal Poke
by Mary on Dec.16, 2010, under Paranormal & Ghosts Blog
Just poking a little fun at paranormal investigators and enthusiast like myself.
It seems that even when dealing with the dead, one has gotten to be politically correct. Investigators and bloggers of the paranormal choose their words carefully in order to not offend …..and maybe to separate themselves from certain implications and public condemnation. So here is a quick translation of the following words or terms and why they are used or not used.
Entity – A neutral word that is used often due to its homogeneous nature in order to describe a separate and self contained existence. An entity comes from no where in particular and could come from anywhere. It is a likable and non-specific all inclusive term
Spirit – Rarely used word because it is too closely related to the religious sector indicating faith rather than fact. May also indicate affiliation with one religious denomination over another…not good to do
Ghost – What can I say about this old fashioned word but: Too hip and not sick
Other Siders – Those that are intelligent and non-conformist.They are from There not Here
Beings – This word is never used by paranormal investigators. We don’t want people to think we believe in aliens too ;o)
Ectoplasma – It’s like calling a human a disgusting, ugly ameba.
Apparition – A widely used term to describe the manifested form of an “entity”. Acceptable unless combined with the word ghost or spirit
Phantom – Seriously…no one uses this word unless in association with the opera

I am old school and not of the politically correct tribe, so you may have to forgive me occasionally.

Another word, which is probably not much used in typical paranormal circles, is “Devas” or “Shining Ones”.
Mainly applied to Nature Spirits such as faeries and fauns, it is a actually a descriptive term for the way that these spirits or entities manifest themselves. If you read accounts of spirits manifest themselves I believe that you will struck by the similarity between the way “devas” manifest and the shimmering effect before “manifestation” we are familiar with from the Star Trek transporter.
The Star Trek transporter has come somewhat out of the sci-fi realm in recent years as physicists have succeeded in “transporting” a single photon of light, much as the Star Trek transporter works.
Perhaps the term “Devas” should be at least thought about, if not commonly used when looking into spirit activities in that it may hold a clue into their nature, as it might indicate a trans-dimensional or trans-multiverse origin for some.

I’ve always been interested in such things called “Sprites” after watching a re-enactment of White Magik. Are these correctly assumed?
•A specter or ghost.
•Archaic. A soul.
I too have been using the terms you described,in the wrong context. I’ll try to mend my vocabulary.

The article was written as tongue in cheek. Apparently it came across as more serious than humorous…my apologies for my humor not transcending from my mind to the written word. Although…meant to be humorous, there is some truth behind it all and how the words may be perceived when used, but nonetheless do not take it seriously.

Yes ,I am from SNC and I have taken this joke as a lesson in identifying and labeling of entities. i would hate to piss off an entity by calling it something it isn’t (;o)> Bison do not like to be called Buffalo…
